If there’s one thing we’ve heard time and again, it’s that guests don’t really understand the military discount program offered by Disney.
The Disney military discount program (formally referred to as the Disney Military Salute) is updated yearly. The discount information for 2020 was released in September 2019. This can make it a little hard to plan ahead, but we’ll talk about that more in-depth in another post.
So what is the military discount? It’s not that simple. There are discounts available on rooms, tickets, and some commemorative items like the Memory Maker product.
Below, you’ll find a handy outline guide of the military discount program. It covers eligibility, ticket discounts, memory maker discount, and a high level view of resort discounts.
Remember that in order to book a vacation using any of the options for a military discount at Disney, you must either call Disney or utilize a Disney Travel Consultant. If you don’t have a Disney Travel Consultant, get in touch with my friend Amber! She’s planned my own trips, and those of other military families.
Basically, you’ll save more money using your discount at the Deluxe resorts, but that’s not to say you won’t see modest savings even at Values. The $70 savings on the Memory Maker isn’t too bad, either!
Tickets are a bit of a learning curve. The promotional military tickets are actually vouchers. You must visit your local base or Morale, Welfare, and Recreation office (or email them like I did), or you can order and pick up at Shades of Green. You can link them to your My Disney Experience app immediately in order to plan FastPass+ and attach tickets to your resort stay. However, before you can get into any of the parks, you must visit a Disney ticket counter to activate them. Essentially, the vouchers turn into tickets at this point. This is also where you’ll need to purchase your Memory Maker.
It’s a lot of information, I know – and it’s very different from the way most guests do things. If you know ahead of time exactly what you need to do, it doesn’t seem quite so scary. Besides – you’re about to walk through the gates of the Happiest Place on Earth!
